What is The Philly Kindness Index?

The Philly Kindness Index is a clean, searchable guide to real organizations and ways to help in and around Philly. Think less fluff, more “room where it happens.”

How do I use it?

Pick a category, narrow with tags, choose a region, click Get Involved. You’re two clicks from an org’s actual page or form.

Why is my favorite org missing?

Either they haven’t been added yet, or they’re hiding from us like a shy cat under a couch. Send us a note ... we’ll check and add them if they fit.

What do the tags mean?

Tags describe what you’ll do (Events, Mentorship), who it serves (Youth, Animals), and how/when (Weekends, Remote). They’re filters, not ratings.

Can I search by neighborhood or region?

Sure can! Center City, South, West, Northeast, Northwest, North, plus nearby counties, South Jersey, and Delaware. Region pages only show orgs that actually serve or recruit there.

I kill every plant I touch. Can I still help the environment?

Totally. We have cleanup crews, recycling drives, and zero houseplants to traumatize.

Is this just Philly?

It started that way. After realizing how much good was happening outside of the city limits, it quickly expanded. It's Philly-first with realistic spillover (Bucks, Montco, Delco, Chesco, South Jersey, Delaware).

Can I bring my kids?

That’s totally up to you. Some groups are great with families, but the Index itself doesn’t decide who’s ready for field trips. Check the organization’s website directly if you’re unsure.

I'm an organization - can I request an edit?

Of course! And welcome! Staff can submit updates to copy, links, tags, or regions. We review quickly.

How do I know if an opportunity is legit and safe?

We link to official org pages or vetted platforms and look for clear roles and contacts. You still use common sense - ask questions, set boundaries.

Who made this thing, and why?

A very caffeinated human who believes Philly’s kindness deserves a spotlight. I got tired of hearing, “I’d help if I knew where to start,” so I built the map.
